Agricola (Castello di) Monterinaldi

The Castle of Monte Rinaldi, situated in the commune of Radda in Chianti, in the center of the historic zone of Classical Chianti, is near an ancient Etruscan track. This historic site is mentioned in a document (written in December 1010), which refers to "the Count Gottifredo Gotizo, of Longobard stock and a gentleman of Monte Rinaldi."
The castle remained intact until 1268. After their victory in the battle of Montaperti (in 1260), the Sienese destroyed the surrounding wall, the main tower and three residences of the castle. It sustained further destruction by the Germans during World War II.
Today a part of the castle remains, surrounded by ancient houses, characteristic of villages in our area.
