In 1500, or thereabouts,
if someone had told Messer Antonio di Bastiano that,
one day, descendents
of his descendents would have created and catalogued an excellent Caucasian wine alongside famous
Etruscan nectars,
he simply wouldn’t have believed it.
Nor would he have understood. Yet a dynamic
conception of the landed estate in San Gimignano
had already identified
in the family harmony
the key to change in the harmonious production development model.
Messer Antonio was
aware of this and married off
his daughter Apollonia
to a man
who possessed both
a noble title and vineyards!
Centuries later, Jaures Baroncini was equally aware of this,
and in the 1960’s he decided to create
Cantine Baroncini:
a top quality winemaking and commercial venture,
destined to climb the ladder of success,
thanks to the complicity of these peaceful lands and their civil nature;
thanks to a farsighted strategy of
gradual purchases;
thanks mainly to the active involvement of his wife Ilva and his children
Bruna and Stefano.
Ilva, Bruna and Stefano now run the business
-which is capable of placing over two million bottles a year on the tables of connoisseurs all over
the world-,
and have taken up
the challenge,
aided by their staff,
of a decidedly unexpected expansion: departing this time for Kvareli in Georgia,
where the slopes of the Caucasian mountains,
by some sort of miracle,
are incredibly similar
to the fertile hills
of San Gimignano,
so dear to Messer Antonio.
