Azienda Agricola Il Moletto
:Name of Vineyard
The Moletto winery extends luxuriant with vines to the extreme eastern edge of the province of Treviso where the soil of the "Marca Trevigiana" is washed down by the Livenza river. The placename 'Moletto', cited in antique maps, was originally shown as a wooded area belonging to the Municipality of Motta. At that time it was governed by the Republic of Venice who recorded Moletto - in an official document conserved in the Venetian State Archives - as one of the seven areas of Motta. The community of Motta had always been served by the generous reserves of lumber found in the surrounding woods which furnished the reconstruction work necessary after the invasion of the Hungarians in 912. The lumber was also used to fuel the furnaces that baked the bricks used for the most prestigious works of beautification and fortification, such as the "Castello della Motta", reconstructed in 1413 and the "Torresin" on Monticano in 1502.
During the first half of the 16th century due to the declining economic situation of Motta this valuable area, located right at the gates of the city, was progressively and inexorably stripped of its extraordinary arboreal riches. However, this constant deforestation also had another effect: it created new farming land. Initially this was of secondary use , but one which was unquestionably further developed over the years. In fact, this ground was already officially recorded in a 1522 document designating 200 working fields which were preponderantly rich in silica and elements of calcium and clay rendering the soil particularly suitable for the cultivation of vines. For this reason, vines suddenly dominated all other types of cultivation. A tradition grew with the passing of each season which today is centuries old. A tradition that guaranteed a continuity of wine production, constant and significant both in terms of quantity and quality and appreciated by generations of wine connoisseurs.
