Josmeyer Domain
:Name of Vineyard
Domain JOSMEYER, managed by JEAN MEYER, Chief Executive Officer and grandson of Aloyse MEYER who founded the winery in 1854, is situated in the village of WINTZENHEIM, just west of the wine region's capital, COLMAR. It stretches across 25 hectares of prime wine growing parcels.
The vineyard's harvest is supplemented with choice grapes from a select group of neighboring winegrowers, all signers of the TYFLO (organic farming) pact who pledge to treat the vines with the utmost biological respect.
JOSMEYER wines of Alsace, the "fruit of love and of passion", bring out the natural qualities of their varietals and express the character of their soils. Dry, elegant yet racy, they seem timid even somewhat reserved until they come alive in concert with the flavors of the foods they accompany.
JOSMEYER wines tend to improve with age so they are a favorite with wine collectors. The Grands Crus reach their peak after 10 or more years, the classics mature in 5-10.
A passion for wine is echoed in the fine art of gastronomy. We do not strive to merely create a great wine, but a wine that will enhance the pleasures of the dining experience. JOSMEYER wines are meant to bring out the flavors of the foods they accompany and are especially harmonious with the dishes of French, Japanese, Chinese, Creole, Thai and Moroccan cuisines.
Through the work of local artists featured on our labels, you will discover the soul of each of our wines. Alive, ephemeral and flowing from the grapes and their soils, they are grounded in the intellectual, artistic and gastronomic culture of Alsace.
« Man is not nourished with calories, but with symbols. » Jacques PUISAIS.
Jean Meyer, born in 1944, is an ardent defender of all of the traditional grape varieties of Alsace. Wine is his passion, and he likes his wines dry, refined and extremely elegant.
«First a winemaker must know himself and find his personal style. Just as with a fashion designer, each year's collection must be different, but true to the designer's style.»
