Horizon Cellars
:Name of Vineyard
Horizon Cellars is one of North Carolina's newest wineries. Situated on 20 acres, the 4,875 square foot wine making facility and adjoining vineyard is located a few minutes south of Siler City, North Carolina, within a grape growing region known as the Piedmont of North Carolina.
Built into a small ridge in rolling hills of western Chatham County, the winery itself is located in an historical area known as Mount Vernon Springs. Mount Vernon Springs was famous in the late 19th, and early 20th centuries for having "healing" mineral waters. Tourists would travel from across the country to drink the spring water, which was said "...to cure what ails you." Residents from miles around would come to collect its water in one gallon jugs to take back home as their weekly drinking water.
The winery was designed by owner Guy Loeffler so that the staff would be personally involved in every step of the winemaking: from harvesting, to crushing and pressing, to barreling and aging, to bottling, packaging and selling.
Its design and chosen equipment reflect the gentle philosophy of the old world way of winemaking. The barrels are aged in the winery's cellar in a temperature and humidity controlled environment.
