Veraison
:Name of Vineyard
Veraison (Ver-AY-zhun) takes its name from the time of ripening in the vineyard when grape growth ceases and color turns from green to deep red and dark purple. Veraison wines are sourced from vines growing on the 1300 acres of Napa Valley property encompassing Stagecoach, Krupp Brothers and Krupp Vineyards. The vineyards set amidst a landscape of Land Rover-sized boulders are unique for their red-volcanic soils spanning elevations of 900 to 1800 feet. Located on Pritchard Hill overlooking Oakville, these vineyards provide the foundation for our wines.
The Krupp family produced their first vintage of Veraison Cabernet in 1999. They were well above the fog each dawn in 2002 for all but two summer days. This optimum sunlight exposure day in and day out allowed the grapes to reach an unprecedented level of ripeness and maturity, leading to full bodied, dark, wines with fabulous structure balanced by an elegant yet intense tannin profile. Yields were initially low and further reduced through careful thinning to create some of the finest wines in the world.
