Judd’s Hill Cabernets have always been the fruit-forward style, good for early drinking; a terrific restaurant wine. I have likened the first sip to one’s first bite into a fresh plum: an explosive, wake up flavor that says, “now that I have your attention, wait five minutes and see me mellow into ripe, dark cherries, a bit of cinnamon and cedar, and, of course, a nuance of French oak.”
That said, the wine really shows a lavish richness and finesse, with a nose redolent of berries and a bit of smoke. Its medium tannin levels suggest that this wine would pair nicely with a whole range of food styles, from roast beef and duck to the Thanksgiving turkey.
