Following on the success of our Cigare Riserva Triperfecto, we have once again added the t axis to our blending trials. This nebbiolo is a blend of two wines from the 2001 and 2002 vintage. This is not a new idea. NV Champagne is made in much the same way. Vega Sicilia Reserva Especial is not such a bad little number if you can scam a few bottles. The virtue of blending vintages lies in the possibility of melding the brighter, more vivid primary notes of sour cherry and rose, with secondary tones of leather and spice. The result is unaccountably reminiscent of a stand up Barbaresco, velvet hammer and all.
