Traditionally made of 100% Cabernet Franc grapes, this full-bodied example from 2005 got my attention the moment I rolled it over taste buds. Smooth, rich, defined, with substantial weight on the palate, it shows integrated black fruit wrapped around a core of warm spice with hints of leather and mint in the far reaches. In the mouth the fruit continues to evolve and expand, the blackberry taking on a dusty mineral note that adds some unexpected interest. This beautifully structured wine cries out for hearty fare and rich sauces, although the simple lamb roast it accompanied at my table proved to be an ideal match with the wine’s balanced acids gently cleansing the palate.
