With 2005 being a slightly cooler vintage, this year’s wine is especially assertive. It definitely has its signature characteristics of cherimoya and mango. But it also has this almost sandy minerality that I have never encountered before, and the presence of juniper berry is about as amplified as a characteristic can be. The wine is big (15% alcohol), which it needs to be. If after encountering its pungency, you were to put this stuff in your mouth and it was wimpy, it just wouldn’t make any sense. As it is, you smell the wine and you go, “whoa”; then you taste it and you go “whoa”!
