Eno-tasting... fading trend or here to stay?

I recently visited a cutting edge wine-bar in New York City called Clo. Clo has the very unique distinction of featuring 100 wines in what's called an eno-tasting system. Each bottle is placed in a machine that replaces oxygen in the bottle with harmless argon gas, thereby significantly lowering oxidative effects on wine, and allowing for such a huge selection for tasting. Customers are then giving cards, which can be swiped at the machine for a 4 oz pour, starting at $8. Eno-tasting allows the curious wine-taster to taste a diverse selection of wines without committing to a bottle or a full glass. I've been to two other wine bars that utilize this concept, one in Queenstown, New Zealand called Taste, and one in Paso Robles, CA, called a Taste of Paso. Taste in New Zealand seriously disappointed, but A Taste of Paso seriously delivered, so I was eager to see what the tie-breaker would tell: would a cutting edge bar in the-city-that-never-sleeps get it right? You'll have to wait and see. I was either so underwhelmed or so impressed that I decided the topic merited an article, and it will be posted shortly on this site. In the meantime, let me know what your experience has been. Do you find the wine oxidized, and the system ineffective? Or were you elated, flitting from bottle to bottle in a personalized wine-tasting extravaganza? My humble editorial is coming soon, but in the meantime, blog, baby, blog...

The Paso Wine Centre is such an amazing place to taste wine, the enomatic system makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. I've yet to bump into anyone in there who doesn't think it's a great way to taste wine. Looking forward to your editorial on Clo, sounds intriguing... (from: TravelPaso )
