Pull Eighty Pinot Noir 2008, Oregon

Author By: Meghan Dwyer

I love a good mystery! The story goes that this wine was sourced from two top Pinot Noir vineyards in Oregon and made by two well-known winemakers, but all kept secret to keep the wine at an affordable price-point.  Truly a bargain, or just good marketing? Taste this wine to form your own opinion, but I'm a firm believer in the former.  An enticing aroma of ripe black cherry and subtle warm spices belies a wonderfully pure black fruit characteristic on the palette, and suggests a premium source.  A hint of fine black pepper and a noticeable earthiness are reminiscent of Burgundy.  Tannins are fine, and make for a silky smooth mouth-feel.  This medium-bodied wine is leaner and more acid based than its Californian counterparts, and while drinking beautifully right now, can also probably be forgotten about and revisited in 5 years.
